Driving MBA - Online Permit Prep Class (Available 6/1-7/31)Summer 2022-Enrichment (Grades 6-12)DrivingMBA’s Online Permit Prep Course is an interactive overview of information found in the Arizona Driver’s License manual. This course is designed to review information necessary to understanding the rules of the road for the state of Arizona. The goal is to help students gain an understanding of these rules, how they apply to practical driving, and what information or questions would be found on the permit test. The class is broken down into different levels and missions to make it easier to manage studying with a variety of schedules. The whole course takes approximately 3 hours but can be completed at a student’s chosen pace. It can be stopped and started, and missions can be repeated as desired. Each mission includes visual demonstrations or images, along with a verbal explanation to help a wide range of learners understand the importance and meaning of different road rules. All students are able to interact with the course administrator, who is an experienced and fully MVD Certified Trainer with DrivingMBA. If a student has questions or needs clarification on concepts, they are able to reach out to the trainer throughout the program and get feedback or clarification directly. Students take small quizzes throughout the course with questions similar to what they will find with the MVD’s permit test, which can help them prepare for the actual permit test. PopularEdgenuity Online Course Credit for Summer 2022 (Grade 9-12)Summer 2022-Enrichment (Grades 6-12)Education & Community Services (ECS) Edgenuity High School Online Courses are available for credit retrieval, grade improvement, new course, or to complete an online Edgenuity course not completed in the 2021/2022 school year. Every course needs signed approval from the student's high school counselor to be accepted by ECS (see 2022 Summer Edgenuity Reg Packet link). The fee is $195 per course semester, .5 credit. Courses may be activated on or after June 13, but regardless of the start time, theend date of the Summer Edgenuity course is July 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Lab Hours: Monday-Thursday, June 13-July 14,10:00 AM-2:00 p.m. No lab hours on July 4, 2022. Registration for summer courses ends at noon on June 27, 2022, unless a student completes the first course and has time to finish a second course. All coursework and quizzes may be completed at home. Prescriptive Tests, Unit Tests, and Final Exams must be taken in person, under the supervision of the Edgenuity facilitator at Cactus Shadows High School in the computer lab, room #137. If testing in person is not possible for a student, please talk with your counselor about an alternative online program. To register, please follow these four steps. 1) Download an ECS Edgenuity Registration Packet. (Cactus Shadows High School Counselors also have the ECS Edgenuity Registration Packet.) 2) Bring these forms to a high school counselor to receive course approval. Please talk with your counselor about how these credits may or may not be accepted by Universities of interest or the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). ECS does not make decisions regarding course approval or student eligibility. 3) Bring the completed Edgenuity Course Approval Form to the ECS Office at the District Office Campus, Room A12. 4) Make the $195 payment online. If you have not yet created an online profile with Eleyo, please do so before making payment. Instructions can be found at www.ecsforall.org. 5) Once steps 1-4 are complete by May 16, 2022, the student’s course will be entered into the system and ready to be activated on June 13. If registering after May 16, there may be a delay in access to the student's course. High School Performing Arts Workshop (Fine Arts Center)Summer 2022-Enrichment (Grades 6-12)This is a workshop not to miss. We encourage high school students interested in stretching their wings as an actor or dancer to join the cast and crew of the 2022 ECS Summer Performing Arts Workshop. Theater students will collaborate to create an interpretive theatrical production. Theater students will develop their acting methods, physicality, vocality as well as a character’s inherent mentality, all of which will create authentic and believable characters. This showcase will be the first weekend school is back in session, August 5th & 6th. This production will be one ‘not to miss’ for friends, family or any performing arts enthusiast in the community! Auditions are required for participation in this High School Performing Arts Theater Workshop! Dates and times will be announced in May. Registrations are required to audition. The link for registration will be available the first week of April. Auditions information will be announced in the registration notes. Cast will be notified after auditions. Students who are not cast in the production will receive a full refund. Tickets will be available for sale to the public, $15/each. Each student registered for this course will receive 26 tickets after their registration payment and casting has been confirmed. These tickets can be given away or resold at $15 each to recoup the cost of the workshop. Other areas covered are Cornell note taking strategies, completing a learning style and study skills assessment, developing strategies and techniques for test preparation and much more. Other areas covered are using Annotation text materials to increase reading and comprehension skills, organizing class work, learning SQ4R reading strategies, completing a learning style and study skill assessment as a means of effectively assessing individual learning styles, learning how to use technology to do reliable research and much more. Summer Bridges ProgramSummer 2022-Enrichment (Grades 6-12)PopularThe 2022 Summer Bridges Program will provide an academic orientation for incoming ninth-grade students in Math, English, and Science. A .5 high school credit can be acquired by completing this summer course. For a student to obtain a .5 high school credit, a student cannot be absent more than 1.5 days for the duration of the Summer Bridges Program. If your child cannot fulfill this commitment, they can take part, not receiving a .5 high school credit if there is not a waiting list for this program. Each day is broken into four blocks and 30-minutes for lunch. (Breakfast and lunch are provided.) Two of the four blocks will cover math, focusing on numeric fluency, including prime/composite numbers, fractions, number decomposition, exponents, and basic operation fast facts. These concepts will be applied to algebraic operations, including balancing equations, solving for variables, and factoring. The English block introduces the five standards of English: reading nonfiction, reading literature, writing, language, speaking, and listening, emphasizing writing. Students will also review various writing styles and practice reading comprehension, critical thinking, figurative language skills, annotating, note-taking, peer collaboration, and individual speaking. Within the Science block, students will spend time exploring Scientific Methods, date tables, and graphing. Students will be introduced to lab equipment, concepts from biology, zoology, chemistry, physics, and study skill overviews. Students should bring a notebook, pencils, and highlighters.Summer 2022
